THE CONCEPT AGE - Conceptual thinking is a major exponent of technological progress. Actually, a constant interaction between the two had, and still has an amazing effect on the development of the modern automobile. Automotive concepts are interfaces between function and shape, between technique and design, and between imagination and reality. Modern information technology has created extra virtual steps between the designer’s pencil, the engineer’s drawing board, the economist’s calculator and the final car ‘in the flesh’. Steps that can calculate every thinkable parameter, and can simulate virtually every detail that can be perceived by the human eye.

MATHEMATICS, MADE BY HAND - As 100% of today’s development work is mathematical and computerized, the realization of any simplified concept car seems more complicated than ever. This mathematical basis however, offers new opportunities for the production of parts and extremely precise reference moulds by CNC milling. These moulds will serve directly for the production of components – with the proper machinery, and also by hand. These can be structural components, or body panels, or interior parts – in steel, aluminium, or technical composites . Some specific solutions will be totally man-made, practically developed on the spot. This is very cost- and time effective.

Carrozzeria Granturismo has developed several compact procedures to reduce the technical steps between model and car. In some cases, a 1:1 model will serve to produce reference jigs, which can then be transferred in one step to a (motorized) rolling chassis as first interference test between the new bodywork and chassis (‘splash’ fase). All working methods at Carrozzeria Granturismo are aimed at working speed, effectiveness, cost control and quality of the final product. The quality audit is based on the highest demands of functionality and aesthetics of the motoring industry, that can be presented on any international motor show.
